💭 # 18 - Productivity Porn / Don't Make Content / Grief
Hi friends, welcome to the latest edition of One Percent Wiser, a compendium of resources to help you live better.
“Patience is a competitive advantage. In a surprising number of fields, you can find success if you are simply willing to do the reasonable thing longer than most people.” - James Clear
📥 From Productivity Porn to Mindful Productivity
Anne-Laure Le Cunff | Optimal Thinking
I confess, I frequently turn to productivity Youtube as a way to procrastinate. Watching videos such as "The 6 best note taking apps" and so on. I have to use a variety of Firefox extensions such as Impulse Blocker to keep me more or less on track. But this article isn't about more tricks and tools, but rather a more nuanced look at some of the ways we self-sabotage.
👩💻 Make Classics, Not Content
Lawrence Yeo | Living Intentionally
Today, apps push us to create "content". Tweets. Tiktok videos. Transient flashes that survive barely longer than the 6 seconds it takes to like or swipe. However if you aspire to do something truly original, or create work that has impact, you need to go deeper. This article will help you think about how to create your best work, not just 'content'.
It also made me adding the date to each link in this newsletter. Because I am not interested in when something was written, only whether it can help you live better.
📐 I Measure Every Grief I Meet
Maria Popova | Finding Meaning
Grief is the unavoidable mirror of a life full of a rich tapestry of meaningful relationships. Though nothing can truly prepare us for the loss of loved ones, taking time on occasion to reflect can help us more deeply appreciate the people in our lives. In 100 years none of us will be here. Is the thing you are currently angry about really worth it? Or is it better to let it slide for the sake of a better relationship?
