💭 # 19 - Don't End With Nothing / Don't Kill Yourself / What Are You Doing With Your Life?
Hi friends, welcome to the latest edition of One Percent Wiser, a compendium of resources to help you live better.
“We often become what we believe ourselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. When I believe I can, I acquire the ability to do it, even if I didn’t have it in the beginning.” — Gandhi
👷 Don't End the Week With Nothing
Patrick McKenzie | Optimal Thinking
Whilst this article has a sprinkling of technical jargon, don't let that put you off. In particular this line stuck with me, "Don't end the week with nothing. Prefer to work on things you can show. Prefer to work where people can see you. Prefer to work on things you can own." Which is why I am sitting down on Saturday morning to write this newsletter. It might be tiny, but this project is my contribution to making a little dent in the universe.
✋ Don't Kill Yourself
John Biggs | Living Intentionally
Seriously don't. This article is a refreshing counterpoint to the endless success clickbait and hustle articles that haunt entrepreneurs. Most new businesses fail, and if you are in the middle of that it can feel like the end of the world. If you struggle with feelings of unworthiness or are prone to beating yourself up, you might also benefit from a book I am currently reading Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach [Affiliate Link]. You can also hit reply to this email if you want to talk.
🌈 What Are You Doing With Your Life?
Kurzgesagt | Finding Meaning
Imagine that what you are doing today is the last time you will do that thing. Washing your laundry. Making dinner for your partner. Meeting your brother for a beer. Whatever it is you are doing, one day you will do that thing for the last time. And you never know when the last time could be. Enjoy life, because you probably will only get one.
If you liked this newsletter, then it would be amazing if you shared One Percent Wiser on social media, or forwarded it via email. By telling your friends and/or followers, you’ll be doing me a huge favour.
Thanks for reading 🙏
