Hi friends, please find a selection of what I am currently reading and watching on what it means to be human, and how to do it better. This week I have been thinking about learning, and how to push yourself whilst staying sane. I hope that something in this week's edition resonates with you.
When we have worked hard and succeed at something, we should be allowed to smell the roses. The key, in my opinion, is to recognise that the beauty of those roses lies in their transience. It is drifting away even as we inhale. We enjoy the win fully while taking a deep breath, then we exhale, note the lesson learned, and move on to the next adventure. ~ Josh Waitzkin

I am currently re-reading The Art of Learning, one of my favourite books. Josh's descriptions of competing at the highest levels of chess and martial arts are inspiring, engrossing and exhilarating. Cultivating the space and time for the type of deep reflection and learning he describes is something that is increasingly hard to do, but is something I would like to build more and more into my routines. Book rating: 10/10

Many ambitious people seem to live in a state of permanent stress, perhaps subconsciously believing that if they are not in a state of discomfort they are not pushing themselves enough. What if in fact this stress and mental anguish was doing more harm than good? What if you could dial it back, and still get where you want to go? This article explores the idea that we can achieve our goals whilst enjoying the ride, quite literally in this case.
